How Writers Can Point Energy in the Right Direction
1 ) Don’t try to be active in all the groups that are available. Take it from someone who tried. Your head will spin. Choose a few maybe?
2 ) Don’t freak out when people unfollow you. It’s not about making everyone happy or entertaining/serving everyone for that matter. We can’t be all things to all people.
3 ) Find a planning tool that works for you. I recently noticed many people on Instagram sharing what helped them focus in 2018, but many of the planners overwhelmed me personally, and the online gadgets can sometimes be another “thing.” I had to find something that worked with my brain.
Don’t be afraid to go a different direction or try new things like I did with Jon Acuff’s calendar for writers. The weekdays begin with Mondays and the whole year is laid out before my eyes in a 3-foot span. Awesomeness with a side of awesomeness.
4 ) A writer recently said, “I follow the joy.” I don’t need to add anything to this. ^_^
5 ) Be slow to answer, quick to pray and seek wisdom. It’s easier to walk into a door than to try to shuffle out backward.
6 ) Invite people into your journey, but don’t let the relationships/opinions define you.
7 ) Do one small thing today to step into that dream, story, etc. Then, do it again tomorrow. And again. Practice for 30 days, saying yes to where you know you want to break ground. Write it down, post it in your car, set a reminder on your phone–do whatever it takes to carve out time for that small step.
8 ) Focus on one or two social media outlets and let the rest go. If that’s even too much, you can still have an account but be active in email, and set your social media accounts to automatically accept friends. Don’t try to do them all 100% unless you happen to be SuperWoman. I don’t have the desire to be everywhere–so I left many accounts open and update them as needed, but do not always share things. Does this mean I don’t care about people there? NO. It means I have to focus on something else.
We can’t wear our hearts on our sleeves when it comes to social media or we will be a constant basket case. Even with the load of real, hard information/knowledge, I can find myself spinning my wheels wearing guilt when it comes to good causes. Pray, let God lead, take a step–cut out the rest.
#TeaAndWord Newsletter is going out tonight! #BookCoverWinner
Due to the #WildHope manuscript being due Dec. 21st, I did not send out a newsletter for December. I was not a month ahead in them, though I could have slapped one together–I didn’t feel led to do that but instead added some cool resources I had gathered and am coupling them with January’s.
For this reason, I will be sending out 2 #TeaAndWord’s this month. The latter will have more book info. Why?
Because the VOTES ARE IN!!! The cover for book two won by a landslide with 70% of the total votes.
Want to know which cover won? It will be in tonight’s newsletter! Happy New Year right?!
