I hated flag twirl.
I didn’t finish the crochet thingy.
I attempted to start my own kids clothing line. I got bored.
I tried screenprinting.
I tried sewing.
I tried my hand at woodburning.
I tried graphic design for income.
I tried baking (I will leave that to my sister).
I tried jewelry making.
I thought wanting anything I wanted was evil (for a time) and become obsessed with becoming a missionary.
I thrust myself into church activities (these are not bad by the way).
*Jennifer Dukes Lee talks about going through this type of ordeal too, in her book The Happiness Dare.
I kept ignoring the words “write.”
I finally caved.
I pushed through.
I remembered (that I always loved to write, always had…how could I forget?)
I let go of things God hadn’t called me to (this is still a process).
I focused where I knew I was called. This tool can help you too.
I worked daily but learned to live life too.
All in time for my 33rd birthday and 15 year wedding anniversary.
The Art of Finishing Well
But here’s the kicker. The art of finishing well looked vastly different than I thought.
And I knew I would think that.
Oh, the irony.
Finishing well looked like this: By the time I came around the horizon, body limping through the finish line–I didn’t care about hoohas. I just wanted to praise God and rest. I thought I would go bananas but I laid down on the floor.
I thought I would jump and hoot but it was like any other week; ordinary and common.
And this is okay. This actually makes me happy. Thank you, God, for the blessed ordinary that You can craft into something much bigger than I.
“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.”
1 Corinthians 9:24 (ESV)
He is our prize, but it’s so cool He gives us ideas & goals with which we can glorify Him.
