More than just reports, I wanted to share with you a preview of what a monthly newsletter might look like, for those of you who are newer to the community or are not signed up.
Highlights of the month #writerlife related…mostly. ^_^
I recommend this if you are hoping to use your time more wisely and/or need wisdom with larger amounts of money flowing in. Not that I have that yet–or will–I don’t know the future, but I do know I am thankful for making over $400 in royalties since the release of Organic Love. Not bad for not knowing what I was doing. The launch part I mean.
Whew…writing the books seem easier to me than communicating about them. Anyone feel me? #MarketingSkillsHereICome (No really…have you heard of The Smarty Pants Marketing Podcast?)
Side note: It’s been interesting to watch the numbers climb but not get to touch it until very recently. I got to the point where I pretended it wasn’t really mine (haha right?) And then after a couple weeks got bored of checking my BookReport account daily so I only do it weekly now.
This is the bottom of BookReport. This doesn’t include what I’ve made from paperback sales in person. Half has been online, half at events and other locations. That’s where the over $400 comes from. I don’t lie. That’s not cool, man.
The neat thing about selling books offline is that Amazon allows authors to buy them at a fraction of the price, called author copies. It allows the author to keep more of the money, so it’s a great way to sell. If you are thinking about writing, I encourage you to not only go the Kindle route (or other mediums). There are plenty of paperback readers out there. The nursing homes are asking me for large print now. This means there are places I had never thought of, who are showing interest.
PS: A Bit of Humor…
My book isn’t the only one to show up around unrelated items when you type it straight up. Bahaha!
I joined Write that Book with Christian author, Tricia Goyer. (Join us!!)
She was in a dream months ago. I waited to see what this was all about. I felt like we were going to get closer, which was wild to me because um–I LOVE Tricia Goyer’s books and her podcast, Walk It Out. So when the door opened for a new business she started where we get access to tons of Christian authors each day of the week–I sort of did inner cartwheels. I just got to learn from people like Robin Lee Hatcher, and an agent from Books and Such. I highly recommend this group. It’s $32/month and there’s something available every day if you want, but it’s at your OWN pace.
- I unsubscribed to a lot of things, and it is still a work in progress.
- I unenrolled from Jerry Jenkin’s Guild. It was $44 and amazing, but felt led as I said, to get more one-on-one with Tricia’s group.
- I held my first book signing. Follow me on Instagram or Twitter for writer stuffs.
- I got to see a sneak peek of book two’s cover, not quite finished yet. #gorgeous
- I’m wrapping up my final chapters for edits. #WildHope #BookTwo
- My husband and I get to be Mary and Joseph in church Christmas play. Cool huh?
- I have a teenager now. What?!?
- My hubs switched to 3rds so we’ve been adjusting again. Clickity clack while he’s sawing logs during the day. So far, so good.
One of my daily routines…
I listen to a single podcast episode per day, author/marketing/creative related while doing the dishes.
One Christian author recently said this: “I follow the joy. Why quite writing and do something else?” It’s paying her bills and she loves it–so why not? I liked that. Each of us will have a unique path, but like Jeff Goins book Art of Work, and Jon Acuff’s book Finish became stepping stones for me–maybe you too will benefit from a writing community, if you are feeling led to pursue income with it somehow, but just haven’t figured out how that will play out yet.

Bing. I’ve had my word since Sept. which is ironic and a blessing since Sept. 27th was my 15 year wedding anniversary as well as the day my book released. Soon after, I heard this word and it hasn’t gone away since. I feel the Holy Spirit keeps telling me, “This year I had you learn to focus, now–we’re going to draw closer together.” I am excited for this, and can feel the stress levels continue to go down as I learn my relationship with him is far more important than checking IG, having the latest ____ (fill in the blank), or whatever else the world has to offer. I can’t wait to hear your word!
