My cousin and I used to hang out so much that we would get tired of each other quickly. We didn’t say it, but the eye rolls and moping probably gave it away. We’d go home, live another week, and the next Sunday we’d be right back to begging to spend the night again.
When people are around each other all the time, sometimes they need a break. The same goes for work. Anytime I’ve taken a hobby and attempted to turn it into a business, I found that the relationship changed.
There is much more to consider when making the shift from just fun to a business, and what once was a fledgling extracurricular activity, now has a pressure that it didn’t previously have.
I love blogging, writing, and creating things. That will never change -but I got so wrapped up in creating, I forgot to play.
The Significance of Pushing the Refresh Button
“The importance of restoration is rooted in our physiology. Human beings aren’t designed to expend energy continuously. Rather, we’re meant to pulse between spending and recovering energy.
The difference is that during the day we move from a state of alertness progressively into physiological fatigue approximately every 90 minutes.
Our bodies regularly tell us to take a break, but we often override these signals and instead stoke ourselves up with caffeine, sugar and our own emergency reserves — the stress hormones adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol.”- Source
All this has shown to be true when I realized I was starting to crave doing nothing.
You read that right. I started to crave doing other things than blogging, or nothing at all for that matter.
The thought of just sitting outside and breathing in air was sounding amazing again.
I guess I had time to miss it from overworking lately.
So, I took this past couple of weeks to pull back from the creative frenzy and do the things that refuel my soul. My son went to stay with my mom and the girls and I went for a walk during the evening hours when it was perfect weather out. We even had to bribe our dog to keep walking with us because of her crush-next-door-neighbor pooch. Those grilled chicken puppy bites came in handy!
Being outside & taking my own photos refreshes my soul. Oh random fuel breaks, how I have missed you. Oh, blades of grass, I have missed you. Oh pavement with surprise flowers on the edge, depending on the season, I have missed you too.
